About Us

Our Story

AGeD was established with a vision to transform the landscape of Geriatric Dentistry in India. As the population ages, there is an increasing need for specialized dental care for older adults. AGeD is committed to promoting the importance of dental health in aging and supporting dental professionals in this growing field. Guided by the philosophy of “Samavaya,” we unite dental, medical, and allied sciences to address the oral health needs of an aging population through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Padmanabhan Thallam Veeravalli

Founder President

Dr. Padmanabhan Sir is a renowned Prosthodontist and Implantologist in India. He is the Founder and President of the Association of Geriatric Dentistry (AGeD) and the Founder and President of the prestigious Indian Board of Prosthodontists (IBP) under the auspices of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS).

Dr. Padmanabhan, often referred to as Dr. T.V. Padu, is a prominent figure in geriatric dentistry with extensive expertise in prosthodontics. His contributions focus on improving oral healthcare for the elderly by integrating innovative techniques to address challenges such as tooth loss, oral dryness, and denture rehabilitation. 

Dr. Padmanabhan emphasizes multidisciplinary care, recognizing the interconnected health needs of aging populations. He is known for advocating customized prosthodontic solutions and holistic oral care for senior citizens. His academic and clinical efforts aim to improve the quality of life for elderly patients by promoting functional and aesthetic dental health.

Dr. Suhasini Nagda

Vice President

Dr. Suhasini Nagda is an accomplished dental professional with an extensive and illustrious career. She graduated with a BDS from Nair Hospital and Dental College, Mumbai, in 1976, followed by an MDS in 1978 from the same institution. She has earned several prestigious fellowships, including the FAIMER Fellowship in 2012, Fellow of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, UK, in 2006, Fellow of the International College of Dentists in 2014, and Affiliate Fellowship of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics in 2012.

Dr. Nagda has served as the Professor and Head of the Department of Prosthodontics at Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai, and held the position of Dean of the institution from 2008 to 2016. She also served as the Director of Medical Education and Major Hospitals under the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) from 2013 to 2016. Her leadership roles extend to being the President of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (2010–2012) and the Editor of the Journal of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (1998–2009).

A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Nagda is the Director of Empowering Educators, a platform for faculty development and academic leadership. She also serves as the Course Director for the IPS One-Year Certificate Course in Health Professions Education. Her contributions to dental education, prosthodontics, and leadership in academic and clinical domains have earned her a revered position in the field.

Dr. Smita Athavale

Founder Hon. Secretary

Dr. Smita Athavale has completed her BDS and MDS in Prosthodontics from Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai, India. She has 22 years of teaching experience as a former Professor, P.G. Guide, and Ph.D. Guide at Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital, Pune, India. She has her own private practice, restricted to Prosthodontics—“Dentofacial Rehab”—in Pune, India.

She is a Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, Geriatric Dentist, and a Founder member of the Cleft Care Center at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital & Research Centre, Pune, India. Along with General and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Full-Mouth Rehabilitation, she also has expertise in Geriatric Dentistry, i.e., dental healthcare for elderly patients. She is a member of the Editorial Board of JIPS.

She is a founder and EC member of the IPS Pune branch. She is a former Joint Secretary of the Geriatric Society of India – Pune Chapter. She is a member and CDE Convenor of the Geriatric Board of the Federation of Special Care Dentistry. She is a founder member and Honorary Secretary of the Association of Geriatric Dentistry AGeD

She is a life member of IPS, ISOI, ISPRP, FSCD, GSI, AGeD, and a member of IDA. She has completed a certification course in Geriatric Medicine conducted by the Geriatric Society of India. She has numerous scientific papers published in national and international journals and has been a guest and keynote speaker at national and international conferences.

Dr. Asha Narde

Founder Joint Secretary

Dr. Asha Narde (MDS), a Conservative Dentist and Endodontist, has been in clinical practice in Mumbai since 1995. She graduated from Nair Hospital Dental College in 1990 and completed her post-graduation from KLES Dental College, Belgaum, in 1994.

Dr. Asha Narde has been a Consulting Conservative Dentist & Endodontist at The Centre for Advanced Dentistry, Breach Candy Hospital Trust, Mumbai, since 2009.

She received a certification in Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology from the Geriatric Society of India in 2024. She is the Co-founder of The Association of Geriatric Dentistry (AGeD), established to raise awareness about the importance of oral health in the elderly. Her focus is on preserving ageing dentition through restorative and endodontic procedures. She has been lecturing extensively to health professionals and senior citizens alike.

Dr. George P. John

Founder Treasurer

Dr. George P. John has been a prominent leader in dental public health and geriatric care, bridging policy advocacy and clinical practice to address the dental needs of elderly populations. His work focuses on improving the accessibility and affordability of dental care for seniors, with a strong emphasis on preventive measures to mitigate common oral health issues faced by the elderly. As Treasurer of AGeD, Dr. John plays a pivotal role in driving strategic and financial initiatives to support geriatric dentistry in India. In addition to his public health efforts, he discovered his passion for prosthodontics during his undergraduate training at Manipal College of Dental Sciences.

After completing his post-graduation in 1998, Dr. John became a Life Member of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) and has served in significant leadership roles, including Independent Treasurer and Second Vice President. With 25 years of experience, he excels in Clinical Prosthodontics and combines academic, clinical, and community engagement while also contributing to content creation in the field. His dedication to advancing geriatric and prosthodontic care has earned him recognition for his extensive outreach and commitment to improving dental health for all.

Prof. Dr. Dilip Deshpande

Dr. Dilip Deshpande graduated from the University of Bombay, India, in 1971 and went on to complete his Master’s in Prosthodontics from the same institution. He served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Prosthodontics at Nair Hospital Dental College, where he made significant contributions to dental education. Dr. Deshpande received specialized training in Implantology at the University of Tübingen in 1986 and has been practicing implant dentistry since 1990. He is a Consultant Implantologist at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, and is renowned for his expertise in maxillofacial reconstruction using implants, a field in which he has made notable contributions.

Dr. V. Rangarajan

Dr. V. Rangarajan (MDS, Diplomate ABOFP, Diplomate ICOI) is a renowned Prosthodontist and Implantologist with over three decades of expertise. A gold medalist graduate from Annamalai University (1988), he completed his MDS in Prosthodontics at R. Ahmed Dental College, Kolkata (1993). He is among the first Indians to achieve the “Diplomate in Oral Implantology” (ICOI, 2003) and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain (2023).

Dr. Rangarajan is the Professor and HOD of Prosthodontics at Sri Venkateswara Dental College, Chennai, and co-author of the widely acclaimed ‘Textbook of Prosthodontics’. He also runs iDentity, a leading multispecialty dental center in Chennai, and is a sought-after speaker at national and international dental conferences.

Dr. Ramandeep Dugal

Dr. Ramandeep Dugal (BDS, MDS) is a highly experienced Prosthodontist and academician with over 35 years of teaching expertise. She graduated and completed her postgraduation from Government Dental College, Patiala (BDS 1982, MDS 1995), and has been serving as Dean and HOD of Prosthodontics at M.A. Rangoonwala Dental College & Research Centre, Pune, since 2010. A postgraduate teacher and guide for over 15 years, Dr. Dugal has also held esteemed positions such as Chairperson of the Ethics Committee at Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College (2013–2019) and Member of the Board of Studies at MUHS, Nashik (2016–2019).

A member of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) since 1995, Dr. Dugal has also served as President of the IPS Pune branch. With more than 40 publications in national and international journals, she is a prominent contributor to dental education and research, inspiring the next generation of dental professionals.

Dr. Paresh Gandhi

Dr. Paresh Gandhi is a highly esteemed dental professional and academician with a distinguished career spanning over 25 years. He serves as a Professor and Guide at Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College, Pune, and is a Consultant Prosthodontist and Implantologist. A gold medalist at both the BDS and MDS levels from Mumbai University, Dr. Gandhi further honed his expertise by completing a Master’s in Dental Lasers from the University of Vienna, Austria, in 2009.

With a focus on full-mouth rehabilitation and dental lasers, Dr. Gandhi has become a sought-after expert in his field. He actively conducts workshops on Fixed Partial Dentures (FPD) and Implants, sharing his knowledge and skills with the dental community. Additionally, he is passionate about training dentists in soft skills, which has significantly benefited clinicians in their private practices.

Dr. Gandhi has held prominent leadership roles, including Past President of the Rotary Club and the Indian Prosthodontic Society, Pune. He is also a member of the Reviewer Committee for the Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society (JIPS). Currently, he practices as a Consultant Prosthodontist and Implantologist at Poona Hospital, Pune, continuing his dedication to advancing dental care and education.

CA Ajit A Damle

Financial Advisors

In practice since 1980, Ajit has been working in the fields of Income Tax, Audits, and GST. He is a consultant and trustee of many renowned trusts. A member of the Rotary Club of Poona West since 2002, he also served as its past president.
Ajit founded the firm Damle and Yadwad in 1980, along with CA V. M. Yadwad as a partner. The firm now has two young partners, CA Rohit D. Date and CA Amol R. Chippa. With a legacy spanning over 45 years, the firm and its senior partners bring extensive experience and expertise to the profession.

Adv. Nikhil Dongre

Legal Advisor

Nikhil Dongre is the founding partner of D.W. Legal Services LLP. He qualified as an advocate in 2017 from D.E.S. Law College, Pune, and has been practicing as an advocate since then. Nikhil has been practicing at the Bombay High Court since 2018.
He completed his LLM in International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London in 2023. With extensive experience in Arbitration and High Court Litigation, he specializes in Civil and Commercial Laws.

Categories

Founder Members

The signatories to the Memorandum of Association are the founder members of the society. These members are entitled to all life member facilities. Founder members must pay a one-time subscription and are eligible to vote at general body meetings.

Honorary Members

Honorary members are nominated by the Executive Council and must be approved at a general body meeting. These members are exempt from paying subscription fees but do not have voting rights or the ability to contest for posts in the Executive Council.

Life Members

Life members must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree in Dentistry and be registered with the appropriate licensing authority. Life members are entitled to all life member facilities and are eligible to vote at general body meetings. The one-time subscription fee .

The one-time subscription fee is Rs. 5,000/- .

Associate Members

Associate members are individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree. They are required to pay a one-time subscription fee and do not have voting rights or the ability to contest for posts in the Executive Council.

The one-time subscription fee is Rs. 3,000/- .

Termination or Cessation of Membership

Membership may cease under the following conditions:

  • Disqualification by respective councils.
  • Death of the member.
  • Resignation from the society.
  • Engaging in activities that go against the interests of the society.
  • Conviction of a criminal offense concerning moral turpitude.
